MONT PASSOT

Mont passot

Mount Passot is the highest point on Nosy Be Island, rising approximately 329 meters above sea level. Named after a French colonial officer, this extinct volcanic peak offers one of the most stunning panoramic views in all of Nosy Be.

From the summit, visitors can see the surrounding crater lakes, lush vegetation, the ocean, and nearby islands such as Nosy Sakatia and Nosy Iranja.
Historically, Mount Passot was used as a lookout due to its strategic height, and today it remains a favorite destination for tourists and locals alike. The site is also culturally important, with the surrounding lakes (called ‘sacred lakes’) believed by locals to be inhabited by ancestral spirits. As such, these lakes are respected and protected by traditional taboos known as ‘fady.’

The area is rich in biodiversity, with various bird species, chameleons, and unique flora.Popular activities at Mount Passot include hiking, photography, bird watching, and sunset viewing. A late afternoon visit is especially recommended to witness the magnificent sunset over the Mozambique Channel
