MONTAGNE D'AMBRE

Montagne D'Ambre

Amber Mountain, towering over the Antsiranana region, is an extinct volcano and was declared Madagascar’s first national park in 1958. Rising to 1475 meters, it hosts a dense tropical forest often shrouded in mist, a stark contrast to the surrounding dry regions.

Historically revered by local communities as a sacred site, the mountain is steeped in legends about forest spirits. This rainforest is a sanctuary of biodiversity: six species of lemurs, many types of chameleons including the smallest in the world (Brookesia minima), rare orchids, and over 75 bird species live here. The park features waterfalls, volcanic lakes, and natural springs. Well-maintained trails offer hikes from 1 to 6 hours. Visitors can enjoy wildlife spotting, discovering waterfalls like Antomboka and Antakarana, and nature walks.

This is a perfect destination for botany enthusiasts, rare animal watchers, and those seeking cooler weather
