LOKOBE NATIONAL PARK

Lokobe National Park

Lokobe National Park is located on the southeastern tip of Nosy Be Island. It is the last remaining natural forest of the island and was declared a nature reserve in 1927, then a national park.

Historically, the forest was revered by local Sakalava communities who believed it was home to ancestral spirits. This humid tropical forest is home to a rich biodiversity including black lemurs, boa snakes, chameleons, frogs, and various rare birds and medicinal plants. The park can only be
reached by traditional canoe or by hiking through villages, preserving its peaceful and isolated charm.

Visitors can enjoy guided forest walks, nocturnal tours to see lemurs and reptiles, bird watching, and cultural exchanges with local villagers.Lokobe is a treasure trove for ecotourism and for those looking to explore the island’s original ecosystem.
