ANKARANA PARK

Ankarana Park
Ankarana National Park, located in northern Madagascar in the Diana region, is a geological and cultural gem. Created in 1956, it is home to unique formations known as ‘tsingy’, spectacular sharp limestone pinnacles formed by erosion.

The park has one of Africa’s largest cave networks, historically used as a refuge by the Antakarana kings during conflicts. These caves still contain royal tombs today, making the site sacred to the local population. The park is also crisscrossed by underground rivers that disappear beneath the tsingy and reappear further along. Ecologically, Ankarana hosts exceptional biodiversity including crowned lemurs, chameleons, snakes, and hundreds of drought-adapted plant species. Marked trails allow access to viewpoints, suspension
bridges, mystical caves, and dramatic tsingy landscapes.
Main activities include hiking, wildlife observation, caving, and photography. This site is a must-visit for nature lovers and those interested in Malagasy traditional culture.
